Arabians - to take you to the Moon

Breeding is no Accident...

In an era when the availability of Arabian horses in Australia is at or near its highest point, many seem to have forgotten that the quality of Arabian horse available today is no accident but the product of many skilled, dedicated breeders committed to maintaining the quality of horse which Australian were accustomed to.

But it is not all skill. Without the quality and diversity of genetics to work with, these breeders would not have achieved what they did.

Naazim is a case in point. We hope you can pause to study the individual animals which combined to produce Naazim.

This picture shows Naazim winning the title of Queensland State Champion. Naazim was already in his teens at the time defeating many of the best young stallions on the East Coast to win this award.

The Sire- Mustafa*

 (Hadban Enzahi x Massarah)

Naazim's sire was the Marbach bred stallion, Mustafa* (Hadban Enzahi x Massarah). This stallion was carefully selected to be the mate for the Aswan daughter Naadirah* (see below).

Mustafa* proved himself as a sire, but not before attracting considerable attention in the showring. His success was not limited to the halter ring, he also competed in three day eventing. He was a versatile Arabian and great ambassador for the breed. Considerable credit must go to his long time owner, the late David Kemp. David was a master horseman, and it was David that converted a great Arabian stallion into a great horse worthy of admiration by any horse lover.

The Beautiful Naadirah*

Since a book (see Recommended Reading) has been written about this beautiful mare it is not our intention to cover the life story of Naadirah* (Aswan x Napraslina). However, modern breeders should take note of the effort which Tanya Hawley made in not just locating any mare in the world, but to locate THE mare which she needed to achieve her dream.

Naadirah's sire Aswan has been a major influence on world breeding, particularly Russian breeding. Her dam, the mare Napraslina, was imported from the Soviet Union to the United Kingdom where she was awarded British Champion mare (see photo below). Naadirah* also won at the British Championships but as a very young filly.

Once in Australia Naadirah* changed many Arabian enthusiasts concept of beauty in a mare. She won numerous major awards however her show committments were constrained by her stud duties. Naadirah* was often ridden and was a superb riding horse.

Naadirah's extended family now numbers in the thousands extending throughout Australia & New Zealand. However, it is the individuals from the mating of Mustafa* and Naadirah*- a once in a lifetime mating- that epitomise the vision of many Arabian breeders, but in particular Tanya Hawley.

Musarrah was bred by the late David Kemp in 1977. She was one of Mustafa's early daughters bred by David, out of the pure Crabbet Risheem daughter Devotion. Devotion was also the dam of one of the great Australian Crabbet stallions Sarafire (x Samiri). Musarrah is the full sister to Musician, an Australian Champion Gelding. Musarrah lives on in a number of breeding programs through at least one son & a number of daughters. She is one of our much loved old girls and possesses an arrogance & cheek that is hard to stay angry at for long!

2007 marks an important milestone for Musarrah- the 3oth year of this very special mare.
