The Grand Old Ladies of Ivahri: 30 Years Young in 2007
August 1 2007 marks a special day for two Arabian mares that grace our stud. Each has a life story to tell, each have touched the lives of many people, and each have beautiful descendents that continue to do them proud.
Woodlyn Caprice (Woodlyn Royal Gem x Arabian Park Silver Light)
AHSA F4153
Woodlyn Caprice (aka Lady) came to us from Lucy Thomson's Lac-La-Biche stud in 1994. Lucy, with the help of the late Wayne Judge had saved her from a starvation situation that claimed the lives of many other Arabians. By the time Lucy rescued her she was a hairless mass of skin and bone, a testiment to the stupidity and greed of some humans.
Woodlyn Caprice repaid Lucy by producing a small group of progeny, small in number but great in quality.
Her offspring were:
Barbury The Statesman S10123 (Windsor Park Destiny) 1983 colt. No progeny.
Barbury Princess Rashidiya F11398 (X Cherox AlRasheed) 1985 mare. No progeny.
Lac-la-biche Shahtina F13449 (x Talisman Rose Bahri +S) 1987 mare. 3 progeny.
Lac-la-biche Lady Rose F17144 (x Talisman Rose Bahri +S) 1991 mare. 3 progeny.
Lac-la-biche Magna Carta G14315 (x Talisman Rose Bahri +S) 1990 colt. 5 progeny.
While we own Lac-La-Biche Lady Rose, Lucy has retained Lac-La-Biche Shahtina. This mare was blinded in an accident many years ago but has continued to live a remarkable life without her sight. She memorises her surrounds quickly and from then on has no difficulty in knowing where objects and boundaries are. From LLB Shahtina came the Aloha Malik+S daughter Lac-La-Biche Genesis. LLB Genesis produced two daughters for her owner,Maree Hutchinson of Tarago NSW, Forest Dale Belle Dejour and Forest Dale Scarlet (both by Aloha Olympic). The AHSA website indicates that Forest Dale Belle Dejour is about to be exported.
Lac-La-Biche Lady Rose is one of our most precious mares having produced 3 fillies from 3 foals- our first foal, Ivahri Silver Rose (x Heritage Silver Rain), Laeli Hogan's Ivahri Gold & Silver (x Salah El Asaad), and our youngest Ivahri Silver Raine- pending (x Ivahri Silver Storm). All three of these girls make us proud to be their breeders.
Woodlyn Caprice has reached 30 years of age despite her early escape from starvation with the help & love of a number of people. She is a mare with abundant personality- one that you cannot but fall in love with. We would have loved to breed a foal from Lady but alas, she was not able to conceive or carry a foal by the time she came to us. That didn't matter in the end- she has been the best grandma any stud could hope to have.
Update: It is with regret we announce the passing of Woodlyn Caprice on 28th November 2008 at the grand old age of 31. A mare that will never be forgotten.

Musarrah (Mustafa* x Devotion) F3652
(Above photo taken Oct 2009)
(Below photo taken we believe when she was in her teens)

In about 1999 we had an opportunity to travel down to Victoria and arranged to pay David Kemp of Homeleigh Arabians a visit. David was, besides being the most lovable old rogue you couldever meet, the owner of Mustafa* for most of his life as well as being a key player in the creation of the Naadirah* dynasty. After sharing a tea or a Muscat (it was winter!) David took us out to meet his girls. From a large grassy paddock David's whistle brought a galloping herd of the most beautiful Arabian mares one could see anywhere.
One particular mare melted Jill's heart by placing her head on her chest... this mare was Musarrah.
It was only a few years later that the news came that David has passed away & that his precious herd was being dispersed by tender. When we saw that Musarrah's name was missing we thought the worst- in fact she was left out because it was thought she was "too old". When we expressed our interest in having Musarrah come to us she was very kindly offered to us.
While we hold the signed transfer papers for Musarrah, we decided never to transfer her out of David's name. She was bred by him, she was much loved by him, and we believe she should always be David's even if he is no longer with us.
We could talk about her show successes when she was young, or her famous siblings which number many well known horses & the odd Australian Champion. But we aren't going to- this tribute is to Musarrah, the horse and friend.
Musarrah's descendents are too numerous to list, however her progeny were:
Sabrah (x Samiri) F7448 1981 mare. 10 progeny.
Bint Musarrah (x R.G Perseus*) F11326 1985 mare. 6 progeny.
Marridah (x Ibn Bataara) F18542 1992 mare. 1 progeny.
Narsarrah (x Nar Halima) F20895 1995 mare. 1 progeny.
Ibn Batman (x Ibn Bataara) G17450 1993 colt. 10 progeny.
Ibn Musarrah (x Ibn Bataara) G17702 1994 colt. Nil progeny.
Lukarrah (x Cool Hand Luke*) S8086 1982 colt. Nil progeny.
Stadkour (Raadin Royal Star*) S11860 1986 colt. 6 progeny.
At 30 years of age Musarrah continues to be one of the first suspected in any raid on the feed shed, or any feed buckets thrown around in the night. She prefers to stay around the house & mow lawns, harrass our dogs, and hold prime position at the door to abuse us for sleeping in. Life in the paddock as a normal horse does not appeal to her. 15.2H+ of personality... built on 30 years of life experience. She continues to be a major influence, not always positive (!), on our young stock. Like her breeder she is a lovable rogue... and the world needs these lovable rogues.
