Arabians - to take you to the Moon

Sir Rose Bahri

(Talisman Rose Bahri +S x Grabon Lady Kashey)

In an era when purebred Arabians have become quite common and affordable to all, Sir Rose Bahri, is a very unusual Arabian stallion.

Sir Rose Bahri, or "Bart" to his many friends and admirers, is a registered Part-Arabian (or Half Arabian in the US terminology) stallion of 7/8ths Arabian blood.

Bart, named after Bart Simpson, whose exploits he tried hard to copy as a young horse (not that he has entirely "matured") is a very accomplished Western horse.

His sire was one of Australia's best known & decorated Arabian Western Pleasure horses. This was Talisman Rose Bahri (Beau Bahri x Rose Quartz*), a winner of many titles including Australian Champion Arabian Western Pleasure. His dam was an exquisite mare, Grabon Lady Kashey. "Kashey" was by the purebred Arabesque Kashmir out of Vondel Park Lady Grey (a daughter of the well known Banderol son Golden Band). Arabesque Kashmir was a stallion of superb breeding- by the beautiful Crabbet stallion Ashmael (Rikash x Royal Murra) out of one of the most important predominantly Egyptian imported mares, El Sherif Kasmina* (Ansata El Sherif x Yasmina).

From this pedigree it can be seen that Sir Rose Bahri is a very well bred part-Arabian, but in an era when these very often have little Arabian blood in them, it is very unusual to see a part-Arabian true to his Arabian ancestry.

With the ease of availability of purebred Arabian stallions it is not surprising that he has not been heavily used at stud. However he has sired a number of beautiful fillies out of Studbook Pony mares. Our stud retains one daughter, out of the very successful Studbook Pony Jevaro Chardonnay. This mare, Ivahri Princess Kasbahri, we believe to be a top class pony.

But why was he named Bart, you ask? Besides being a master of all kinds of locks, latches, and light switches, he also is a master at disabling electric fencing and the opening and closing of gates & doors of many kinds. He has been known to let himself out of a stable- and then lock himself back in when finished! He is a horse that is constantly exploring, never ceasing to want to learn more. In the show ring under saddle he has been known to follow the lead of his trainer- while the trainer was riding another horse!

Reference Sire: Talisman Rose Bahri +S

Talisman Rose Bahri+S (Beau Bahri x Rose Quartz*) aka Manequin was one of Australia's best, and most naturally gifted saddle horses. Standing 14.1 1/2H, he was a superb Western Pleasure horse but he competed at the highest level in English Pleasure, and could compete in almost any saddle class. He was one of the very few Australian purebred Arabian horses that not only competed against the Quarterhorses in Western, but even beat the best of them at a number of significant Western events. He was an icon to many of us. He won numerous Arabian titles- many Championships at the Nationals, High Point horse at the National Capital Titles, and finally Australian Champion Western Pleasure horse.

His progeny have won many titles in both halter & saddle- including Australian Championships.

While Talisman Rose Bahri could not have achieved his successes without the inherent talent he possessed, two people deserve our admiration for their love and committment to him. Lucy Thomson, the lady that first saw him as a very young horse still with his mother... Lucy & Manequin were a team that would rival Fred & Ginger for the way they understood each other. One cannot mention this horse without mentioning the Late Wayne Judge... one of Australia's greatest Western trainers & all round horsemen. Wayne & Manequin weren't horse & rider- they were best mates. Lastly, if it wasn't for the gifted breeding skills of Sylvia Webeck, founder of the Talisman Stud, Australia would never have had Talisman Rose Bahri+S.

Reference Sire 2: Ashmael (Rikash x Royal Murra)

Reference Sire (3): Beau Bahri

Sir Rose Bahri's grand-sire was Beau Bahri (Bahri x Rose Quartz* Imp NZ). Beau Bahri was the premier sire at the Talisman Stud owned initially by Sylvia Webeck. He was a recognised sire of excellent endurance and race horses, and as the photo demonstrates he was also a handsome stallion. He was a fine example of Crabbet/Australian breeding.
